Students Will Understand:

  • What investing is, and how it can grow their money over time. They will look at a specific investment, housing, to see how lending works and the ways consumer credit is protected.
  • The different types of investments, risk-reward trade-offs, and the power of compound interest. They will see how tax policies that allow people to save pre-tax earnings or to reduce or defer taxes on interest earned provide incentives for people to save.
  • How events impact stock prices positively and negatively, and they understand how to analyze stock metrics to predict performance.They will see that expenses of buying, selling, and holding financial assets decrease the rate of return from an investment.
Students will also take a quiz to show their understanding of essential ideas in investing.
