Students Will Understand:

  • There are different economic systems various countries use around the world, with pros and cons to each.
  • The characteristics of these economic systems and how the American mixed market economy works. Students will analyze federal and state laws, regulations, and consumer protection agencies (e.g., Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Affairs office, and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau) can help individuals avoid unsafe products, unfair practices, and marketplace fraud.
  • Trade, comparative advantages, and how different governments regulate and measure against other economies.
Students will also play a game that will reinforce their money skills, show the importance of having a money-management system, and build on the knowledge from this lesson.
